It Takes Practice

Proper weight management is like any other skill: You need someone to teach you how to do it properly, then you need lots of practice.

Sometimes the practice can be more like learning to ride a bike… You will fall. The struggle will be real. Some falls will hurt, others will just hurt your pride.

Some of us will get taught well early in life, and the practice they did will be less obvious to the rest of us when they are adults. We’ll call them lucky.

Some of us will have to learn as adults when, just like riding a bike, learning new skills can seem much more difficult.

Some of us will develop new bad habits along the way, just like a professional athlete can develop subtle lazy habits throughout a season that eventually compound to negatively affect their play.

And just like the athlete, occasionally we have to course correct, and go back to practice the basics.

This subject of weight management is very complex, as is understanding hunger, but in the end it will always boil down to the consistent practice of what works.

We may fall out of practice. But we can always pick it up again.

The mundane ritual of practicing what works in the face of thousands of other options is how we manage our weight.
